Not Her Real Name
Sanddoodle with a new Lego kit. (It's ginger ale orange juice in that cup.)
Sanddoodle is not my real name. The "Sand" represents San Diego, my current home. The "Doodle" refers to an unknown scribble on the ground by Jesus of Nazareth when he was confronted by people planning to stone a woman to death. He said (John 8.3-11, NRSV) "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." People have always wondered what he was writing there. At least I have.

I am olderly -- a retired person. When I was 40 I learned to say no. When I was 50 I learned to say no and really mean it. When I turned 65, I finally voiced my opinion.
I detest consumerism, injustice, ageism, racism, politics, spiritual terrorists, loud noises, and the NY Times crosswords. I don’t like trivia.
I am not fond of the AARP (because of the consumerism). But I do love cats, the Beatles, and the Forte tenors. I have all of Gerard Butler’s movies on DVD. My music tastes are Eclectic, light orchestra.
I don’t really like TV, never did . Family didn’t even own one until I was a teenager. Kids still played outdoors then.
My favorite movie of all time is “Galaxy Quest.” It is profound as well as funny. Tied for second place are the BBC’s “Pride and Prejudice” (1995) and “Phantom of the Opera” (2005 film).
I stole a book once when I was younger. It was volume 2 of Kierkegaard’s Either/Or (It was the Or.)
Some grandmas crochet mittens, cruise the world, serve meals to the homeless, because they can. Or play the slots and watch Jeopardy. I prefer to make web sites, because I can.
I have always loved to read, learn, digest, write and re-explain stuff for other people who just don’t have the time.
I maintain five web sites on different subjects, each with its own little library: adult Lego hobby (AFOL), criminal justice, German-American genealogy, a historical linguistics project, and the current “philosophy.”
I prefer reading non-fiction, especially on Nature, Religion, and the alleged conflict between those two over “evolution.” A never-ending story...
I study the “Tyranny of Ideas.” My travels are mental. I argue mostly with deceased authors, and a few living ones.
I am an amateur and a generalist, and proud of it. I’m not a specialist although some subjects engage me far more than others. (I have omitted many important subjects from this site, like Travel, Health, Money and Politics, not because these are controversial but because they don't really interest me. )
Since I have no formal affiliation - no religion, sponsor, university, or school of thought -- I feel that I am in a better place to see the Big Picture, the interdisciplinary one that specialists so often miss.
Am I opinionated or what? Yes.
Life is short people. Don’t dick around.
